Evergreen Rotary Establishes Endowment Fund Dedicated Exclusively to Indigenous Women’s Education in Guatemala

Is your club looking for a way to engage in international service, but perhaps you are not large enough to devote the time and resources to make it happen?  The Rotary Club of Evergreen has a solution for you.  Thanks to a generous initial gift of $200,000 from the Quetzal University Fund, the Evergreen Rotary Foundation now has a project specific endowment fund dedicated exclusively to the university education of young indigenous women in Guatemala.  The endowment agreement calls for the Foundation to make annual grants to the MAIA-Impact School in Sololá, Guatemala to fund scholarships for its graduates in perpetuity.

The Quetzal University Fund is expected to contribute another $300,000 by 2026.  This will result in a principal amount sufficient to support annual grants of approximately $25,000 each year, enough to provide scholarships to about 10 students.   We would like to grow that principal in the years ahead to provide even more scholarships.  That’s where you come in.

If your club would like to have a significant impact internationally and help achieve Rotary’s goals in the areas of education, women’s empowerment and gender equity, please reach out to us by contacting either Al Steger alan.steger@gmail.com or Ted Ning, theodorening@hotmail.com.  We would be happy to meet with your club or make a brief presentation to explain how you can become involved.  Remember, because this is an endowment fund, any contribution, large or small, has an impact and will continue to do so every year for the foreseeable future.  It truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
