The Evergreen Rotary Foundation has a New Endowment Fund Dedicated Exclusively to the Education of Young Indigenous Women in Guatemala
Thanks to a generous initial gift of $200,000 from the Quetzal University Fund, the Evergreen Rotary Foundation now has a project specific endowment fund dedicated exclusively to the university education of young indigenous women in Guatemala.  The endowment agreement calls for the Foundation to make annual grants to the MAIA-Impact School in Sololá, Guatemala in perpetuity.   The Quetzal University Fund is expected to discontinue operations at the end of 2026.  At that time, all remaining funds will be transferred to the endowment fund.  Current projections are for this to result in a principal amount of approximately $500,000, enough to support annual grants of about $25,000, or scholarships for approximately 10 students each year.  In fact, we have made our initial grant last week of just under $24,000.  Any donations we receive from this point on will help build the principal and allow us to increase grant amounts in future years.

We couldn’t be more pleased with this news.  It means that, to the best of our knowledge, Evergreen Rotary will be the first club in District 5440 to have a project specific endowment fund.  It also means a significant step forward in accomplishing Rotary International’s goals in the areas of education, women’s empowerment, and gender equity.
