Mike Weege is the Fire Chief for the Evergreen Fire Protection District and has served in this role since 2012. He is also on the Board of Directors for the Jefferson County Communications Center Authority or Jeffcom.

Mike started his career in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter for Evergreen Fire/Rescue in 2001. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin – Stout, Mike worked in the mechanical engineering field before entering the fire service. Named on seven patents, Mike engineered equipment for the robotics industry, mobile mining, and electronic testing.

In his free time, Mike enjoys camping, backpacking, fishing and sports.

Kris has been with Evergreen since November 2023 and in the fire service since 1990 in Illinois, Arizona, and Colorado. Excited for all the amazing opportunities the Evergreen community and Evergreen Fire Rescue have ahead. He is looking forward to being engaged in the leadership challenges, developing responsible and sustainable solutions, and being given the ability to serve in his role as Fire Operations Division Chief. 

Kris is also the Chair of our Rotary Community Services Committee.

Jason manages all operations, employees, and business affairs of the District and is charged with the hiring and management of employees and facilities. Prior to joining EMD in 2022, he worked in the field of public works, engineering, and construction. Jason has a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado Denver and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Colorado and Louisiana.  Jason is active in many professional organizations. He serves as an Officer of the Bear Creek Watershed Association, the Vice President of the Urban Watersheds Research Institute, the Chair of the Hodgson Ditch Company, the Vice Chair of the Soda Lakes Water and Mineral Company, and as an Officer of the Emergency Management Committee for the American Public Works Association.  When not at work, Jason enjoys spending time with his wife (Laura) and two boys (Gabriel and Logan). He coaches high school football at Evergreen High School, loves hiking, skiing, golfing, and other outdoor activities.

Kurt Kionka, I-70 Floyd Hill Project Director, and Stacia Sellers, Strategic Communications Lead, Major Projects and Operations, will provide attendees with an overview of the I-70 Floyd Hill Project. The presentation will include what the completed I-70 alignment will look like, how it's being constructed, CDOT's commitment to minimizing traffic impacts, what major construction is coming up and how you can stay plugged into the project.

Prior to her election as County Commissioner, Lesley served as the Vice President of Strategic Engagement for the Colorado Education Initiative, providing vision and strategy across the organization’s five initiatives. Earlier positions included leading a multi-million grant at the Education Commission of the States for school improvement nationwide as well as working with large urban school districts and national education leaders as a senior director with a premier communications firm in Arlington, VA. Committed to enhancing her profession, Lesley also served as a vice president on the national board of the Education Writers Association and is the past president of the Colorado School Public Relations Association.  

An engaged community leader, Lesley was elected county-wide to the Jefferson County school board in 2011 and served as board president for two years. In 2023, Developmental Disabilities Resource Center recognized Jeffco commissioners as Elected Officials of the Year. Readers of the Canyon Courier awarded Lesley with 2023 Best Government Official. The West Metro Chamber earlier named Lesley as one of Jefferson County’s most distinguished women leaders. 

The Trex bench our club sponsored in honor of John Wingate will be dedicated following our meeting on August 30. The bench location overlooks the east pond at the Buchanan Ponds under a pine tree. Please join us for the dedication at 9 am that morning.

To continue our focus on peace, this week we have Homayoon Milad speaking with us on his work at the International Rescue Committee in Denver. 

He is an accomplished professional with a remarkable background in community development, policy advocacy, social peacebuilding, and project management. Milad brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his role. With a Master of Science in International Cooperation Policy and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, he profoundly understands peacebuilding and social development.
 
Through his work in key government and international organizations positions, Homayoon Milad has gained a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by communities affected by conflict and displacement. His experience in policy advocacy, project management, and community development has equipped him with the skills necessary to drive positive change and empower vulnerable populations.
 
Milad's commitment to community empowerment and his exceptional skills in community development, policy advocacy, project management, and grassroots social peacebuilding make him a catalyst for positive change. He is a trusted leader and a beacon of hope for those in need.

Investigator Gary Whitesides was raised in Southern California until 1987 when a change of scenery presented the opportunity to relocate to Colorado. He graduated from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado in 1999, spending the next few years exploring different industries, car rental, insurance & amp; finance, and banking. In 2005, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office extended a career opportunity as a Deputy Sheriff, completing the law enforcement academy in August 2005. He worked two years in the detention facility, twelve years assigned to the Patrol Division, and the last five years assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division. The initial assignment was in the property unit working motor vehicle thefts. COVID was an exceptional period of “growth” in the auto theft industry. He made a lateral move to the complex crimes unit in 2021, focused on financial crimes; elder exploitation, identity theft, and scams.

Investigator Todd Manes was an environmental consultant for the first 18 years of his working life.  He went to college for hydrogeology/geochemistry.  In January 2007, almost 18 years ago, he joined JCSO where he spent six years in Detentions, eight years on Patrol, two years in Recruiting, and now over a year in the Financial Crimes Unit of Investigations. As an investigator, he primarily deals with cases of identity theft, fraud, forgery, money laundering, and elder financial abuse/exploitation. He is also a member of JCSO’s HazMat Response Team, a report writing instructor for the Regional Academy, and a co-teacher for LGBTQ+ Awareness in the department.

Crime Scene Analyst, Sydney Stansbury began her career as a Crime Scene Investigator for the Greensboro Police Department in North Carolina in 2020. After a year and a half, the opportunity presented itself to work for the
JCSO and she leapt at the opportunity because it brought her home. She was born and raised in Evergreen Colorado and has had the chance to work with the Evergreen Rotary Club on several different occasions (Thank you for YRYLA and RYLA!). She also has a Bachelors degree in Forensic Science from the University of Nebraska and a Masters degree in Forensic Technology from the University of New Haven. She became an IAI Certified Crime Scene Analyst in November 2023 and is coming up on 3 years working for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
